Sunset Hills Revisited
We recently posted about this Mediterranean style home in Sunset Hills that we renovated for homeowners Joe and Patty Cambiano, but we thought it deserved a second look. We actually had a chance to walk through the house before Joe and Patty purchased it and came up with a plan of action on that first day. Renovating a home takes time and patience as Joe and Patty soon discovered. During construction we came across water and structural damage that had ruined some of the stucco and parts of the roof. A little after a year later the Cambianos had their dream home. The ...
Design Build Team Travels Out West
We might be based in Overland Park, Kansas, but that doesn't stop us from going where our clients need us, even if that is the beautiful State of Colorado. See the below custom home we helped to build in Summit County, Colorado. Check out that view, now you can see why we packed up our skis and headed out west for this project!
A Kansas Kitchen Update
We were commissioned by a young family to expand their existing kitchen in their 1940s home in Leawood, Kansas. The homeowners wanted something a little more contemporary and practical that fit in with their lifestyle. The original kitchen was more of a walkway between the dining room and the family room. We designed an addition to the rear of the home extending the kitchen by 380 square feet. There are always challenges to be faced on any renovation. As architects and builders we are equipped to handle these challenges and adjust the plans quickly and easily. Structural elements were added such ...
Mission Accomplished!
This 1917 Mission Hills home, recently purchased by a young family, needed to be updated to fit their more contemporary lifestyle. We were asked to design and build an open kitchen combining the space from several small rooms. Besides the aesthetic improvements it was also necessary to update and bring up to code of all the electrical and mechanical components. Once we began construction, we found that the house had no insulation. We opened up all four sides including the floor above garage to install insulation. We also found extensive termite damage in the exterior walls. The electrical was original knob ...
The Process of Building a Design Build Team Home
Here at Design Build Team, we believe that every successful project starts with a qualified, experienced, registered architect. The architect will guide the project through the entire process from start to finish, but it is the hard work of the entire team that results in the beautiful finish of the home. The process of building a DBT home consists of programming, design and construction. Programming Phase - Together we explore the interplay between form and function, as they relate to usage and budget. Design Phase - Sketches, more exploration, refinement, suggestions, solutions, preparation of refined drawings and construction documents. Construction Phase - Where two dimensions ...

Client Testimonial
Posted on July 25, 2010 · Leave a CommentWe recently received a phone call from a client regarding the paint colors we used for his home. He wasn’t able to locate the original notebook we gave him when we finished the project over four years ago and he was wondering if we could help. Maggie Bauer Goss, Design Build Team project architect, was able to quickly find the information on her computer and we forwarded on the paint selection to the client right away.
Below is a testimonial from our client, homeowner of our Sunset Hills project.
For my wife Patty and me, the greatest part of our experience with the Design Build Team was the communication. The quality of the job was there but no matter how good the contractor no job goes perfectly so lines of communication are crucial. Dave and his assistants were always available to talk and meet with us. The whole contracting group was courteous and good people to be around. We had a pizza party when the job ended where the workers and even some of their spouses came over to see the finished product. – Joe
Architectural Challenges
Posted on July 19, 2010 · Leave a CommentThis kitchen, in an Indiana home, is making the most of their architecture features, especially the Brazilian cherry and wrought iron spiraling staircase in the center of the room. To some the spiral staircase would present a challenge, but for designer Kristin Okeley, she played up the focal point and built her kitchen around the staircase.
The open floorplan makes the space appear larger; the actual size of the kitchen is just 368 sq ft. Okeley accentuated the curvature of the staircase with the center island.
What do you think of this kitchen?
