Sunset Hills Revisited

We recently posted about this Mediterranean style home in Sunset Hills that we renovated for homeowners Joe and Patty Cambiano, but we thought it deserved a second look. We actually had a chance to walk through the house before Joe and Patty purchased it and came up with a plan of action on that first day.
Renovating a home takes time and patience as Joe and Patty soon discovered. During construction we came across water and structural damage that had ruined some of the stucco and parts of the roof.
A little after a year later the Cambianos had their dream home.
The kitchen, like in many homes, is the focal point of the home.
Peggy told Kansas City Homes and Gardens that the yellow hood was inspired by HGTV.
One of the draws to this home was its architectural accents such as the arched doorways and handcrafted wrought-iron gates, which date back to the 16th century.

We might be based in Overland Park, Kansas, but that doesn’t stop us from going where our clients need us, even if that is the beautiful State of Colorado. See the below custom home we helped to build in Summit County, Colorado.
Check out that view, now you can see why we packed up our skis and headed out west for this project!
A Kansas Kitchen Update

We were commissioned by a young family to expand their existing kitchen in their 1940s home in Leawood, Kansas. The homeowners wanted something a little more contemporary and practical that fit in with their lifestyle. The original kitchen was more of a walkway between the dining room and the family room. We designed an addition to the rear of the home extending the kitchen by 380 square feet.
There are always challenges to be faced on any renovation. As architects and builders we are equipped to handle these challenges and adjust the plans quickly and easily.
Structural elements were added such as this column which now anchors the large center island.
We had originally planned for granite countertops, but changed to concrete, which is less expensive. The choice actually worked out well for this young family. The look is more modern and very durable.
We helped the family cut cost by putting up these shelves in place of cabinets for their dishes. We think the white dishes really pop against the green wall!
At Design Build Team, we understand that in today’s economy you might be more reluctant to make adjustments to your home. Our experienced team of architects and builders will work with you to help lower costs and save you money.
